Annual Labor Day fireworks display set for Sunday

Aug 22, 2023

Fireworks will be lighting up the night sky this weekend for the annual free Labor Day display sponsored by Visit Hot Springs.

Scheduled for Sunday, the show will start around 8:45 p.m., VHS CEO Steve Arrison said.

"It's hard to believe Labor Day's already here for Hot Springs," he said. "The schools have already started, but Sunday, Sept. 3, we're gonna have the great fireworks display on Lake Hamilton that we're known for, right off the (Highway) 7 bridge across from the Doubletree Hotel. We say they start about 9 o'clock. It gets dark, but everybody says, 'Well at sundown.' Well, it's still not dark enough at sundown. It's usually right around between 8:45, 9 p.m."

The Labor Day holiday marks the unofficial end of summer, and Arrison said it also marks the end of the main tourist season in Hot Springs.

"We'll have a great fireworks display, and it's sort of the official end of the tourism season," he said. "But that never stops in Hot Springs. So we're really looking forward to a great fall. All sorts of special events coming up."

There was a three-year hiatus on the show following the COVID-19 pandemic, but this is the third year back for the event. It has been a tradition in Hot Springs for more than 25 years, Arrison said.

"We stopped for a couple of years about three years ago, but they've been going on -- I've been here in my 26th year, and it was going on before I got here," he said. "So the late Tom Daniel, a great city director and (Advertising and Promotion) commissioner, started them, and it's been a Hot Springs tradition."

In the event of rain, the show will be held on Monday.
