Shanken News Daily: Exclusive news and research on the wine, spirits and beer business

Oct 30, 2023

Terlato Wine Group has relaunched Rutherford Hill Winery, giving the Napa Valley wine brand a refresh and a new, more upscale position in the wine market, which Terlato has dubbed “Rutherford Hill, Reimagined.” The company partnered with creative agency Denomination to reboot the brand with a more modern look and feel across its packaging, e-commerce, and marketing materials.

The relaunch kicks off with three wines—a Cabernet Sauvignon and a Sauvignon Blanc from the Anthony J. Terlato Estate Vineyard, and a Napa Valley Merlot—with the wines priced at $65, $34, and $40, respectively. Rutherford Hill celebrated its 50th anniversary last year.

The repositioning follows the 2022 appointment of a new winemaker, South Africa’s Michael Coode, previously of Bordeaux’s Chateau Margaux, Napa’s Inglenook, and Niagara’s Inniskillin, among others. Next summer, the Rutherford Hill winery will reopen to tourists, showing off newly renovated tourism facilities.—Shane English
